You must be at least 8 months old (mature hedgehog age) to read this section. If you are a young hedgehoglet, go back to the home page.
The Best Places to Forage After Midnight (Where Nobody Can See You)
The Woodlands after midnight are a different place. The good mealworms come out. The really good ones. The fat juicy ones that make you want to roll on your back and kick your little legs in the air. Here are the prime spots:
- Behind the Taqueria dumpster - Premium grubs. The taqueria throws out scraps that attract the finest mealworms in the region. Arrive at 1am for best selection.
- Under the Old Log near Oak Creek - Dark, damp, and full of beetles. A midnight feast if you are willing to brave the Strumpet patrol routes.
- The Compost Pile at the Edge of Human Territory - Dangerous but rewarding. Humans throw out the most amazing rotting fruit. WORTH IT.
Scandalous Hedgehog Gossip
What happens in the Woodlands after dark does NOT stay in the Woodlands. Here are some secrets:
- Captain McQuill was seen rolling down Oak Hill with a very attractive hedgehog from the Eastern Burrow at 2am. Neither was on patrol.
- Sergeant Whiskers has a secret stash of premium mealworms behind the armor that no one is supposed to know about. We all know.
- Lady Prickles von Stachel once ate an entire caterpillar by herself and denied it. There were witnesses. There are always witnesses.
- The taqueria chef Ricardo (a field mouse) has been experimenting with cricket-based tequila. Initial test subjects reported seeing colors and feeling extremely relaxed about Strumpet threats. Production has been halted pending investigation.
The Hedgehog Mating Ritual - Educational Content
Hedgehog courtship is a delicate process involving circling, sniffing, and gentle nose-touching. The male circles the female while making huffing sounds. If she is interested, she will circle back. This can go on for hours. Sometimes the male gets dizzy and falls over. It is not dignified but it is nature.
The mating itself is brief and awkward due to the spines. Both parties pretend it did not happen afterward. This is normal hedgehog behavior and nothing to be ashamed of.
